While living in Reno during the late 1990's, Cary and Steve explored a variety of culinary delights including some show stopping Hispanic food (thanks Maria, Sergio, Joel and Vincente). As a result the couple developed a love of chile pepper-based foods. This passion led to attempts to create the world's best salsa. Eventually, better judgement prevailed and the quest for the best commercially produced gourmet pepper products was on!
In 2001, Cary moved back to Montana, and Steve, of course, followed her (ain't love grand?). Steve had retired by this time, and Cary was ready to work less than full time, so they developed a plan to share these wonderful products with folks who had not yet had the opportunity to use them. This plan consisted of a road show covering Eastern Montana, Western North Dakota and points south. They selected the name "Sod House Sundries" to reflect the area's heritage, while allowing them to carry a diverse line of products.
The road show was successful beyond their wildest dreams, but it soon became clear that there was a flaw in the plan; people would have to wait for more of their favorite sauce until Sod House Sundries came back for another show. Consequently, Steve and Cary opened a store in Glendive, Montana, where customers can get products on a regular basis. With Glendive as base camp, shows will continue during the fall and winter of each year so contact can be maintained with all their friends across the region.
